Jimmy Garoppolo's Projected Passing Totals Are Disrespectful

Jimmy Garoppolo's reputation took a pretty significant hit during the postseason. Most fans viewed the San Francisco 49ers' recent Super Bowl run as an opportunity for the 28-year-old QB to prove himself, but Kyle Shanahan essentially took the ball out of his hands. A slightly underwhelming Super Bowl performance then really opened the flood gates for unfair criticism of Jimmy G.
However, the hate has gone way too far. Garoppolo is a much better quarterback than he's been given credit for lately, as he's continually been underestimated by fans and media members alike.
In fact, not even the oddsmakers are immune from this. FanDuel Sportsbook's projected passing totals for Garoppolo are so low they can only really be described as disrespectful.

The over/under for Jimmy G's passing touchdowns has been set at just 25.5, while his projected yardage total is available at over/under 3,850.5. For reference, he's projected to throw for fewer yards than Baker Mayfield and is only 50.0 yards ahead of rookie Joe Burrow. As for the touchdowns, he's projected to throw for fewer than both Daniel Jones and Philip Rivers.
Playing in his first season back from a torn ACL suffered in 2018, Garoppolo cleared both 25.5 touchdowns and 3,850.5 yards last year. Now fully recovered, you have to assume the 49ers will be a little less cautious with him.
As a team the 49ers had the fourth-fewest passing attempts in the league in 2019. And yet, Garoppolo still posted top-10 marks in passer rating (102.0), touchdown percentage (5.7), yards per attempt (8.4) and yards per completion (12.6).

Garoppolo beat these projections last season, despite coming off an injury and playing on the second-most run-heavy team in football. With even the slightest uptick in volume in 2020, he'll shatter these projections.
But he's already proven he's efficient enough to beat these marks, regardless.
