The Boston Red Sox are ready to go head-to-head against the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. Unfortunately, they'll have to do so without start player J.D. Martinez, who is slated to miss his third straight game due to a groin injury.

J.D. Martinez Injury Update

Martinez initially suffered his groin injury during Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. He was available to pinch-hit against the Rays on Friday, so the hope is that he'll be back in the lineup in no time.

The 34-year-old veteran has recorded 5 doubles, a home run and 7 RBIs in 41 at-bats while batting .268 so far this season.

The four-time MLB All-Star has hit at least 28 home runs in each of the last four full-length seasons. Even if he doesn't miss a game beyond Saturday's contest, he's only on pace for 13 HRs this season, which is why the Red Sox fans are hoping that some time off will help him return to his MVP candidate form.

A healthy Martinez is needed if the Red Sox hope to go on a championship run this year. FanDuel Sportsbook currently has them in a tie with the Los Angeles Angels for the 13th-best odds (+2500) to win the 2022 World Series.
