Guardians Disrespected by Odds to Win AL Central

Updated:

On the heels of a thrilling 11-inning victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, the Cleveland Guardians are back atop the AL Central standings. Cleveland is now tied with the Twins for the division lead with a 35-28 overall mark.

The Guardians are rallying in the month of June, playing to a 14-4 overall record and winning 10 of their last 12. While this team may be a proven winner on the field, Cleveland isn't getting any love from the oddsmakers. In fact, the Guardians' odds to win the AL Central division are simply disrespectful.

FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds show Cleveland at just +300 to win the division. This figure trails both the Twins and Chicago White Sox, who both sit at +140.

Trailing a team like the White Sox, who have been more than two games over .500 during just one stretch this season is a shame. Chicago currently trails both the Twins and Guardians by 3.5 games in the standings and doesn't even retain a Wild Card spot.

This slight is nothing new for Cleveland, who was picked to finish fourth in the division by many experts during Spring Training. Cleveland also entered the season with a win total set at just 75.5, the fourth-worst mark amongst five division teams.

Cleveland hopes to keep playing well and get the last laugh. Jose Ramirez is due for another All-Star appearance, slashing .303/.393/.636 with 16 home runs and 62 RBIs, and has played himself into the AL MVP conversation. Cleveland's team ERA of 3.58 also ranks sixth across all of baseball.

Despite the clear evidence this team will contend until the final out before October, FanDuel Sportsbook shows Cleveland with just +7500 odds (17th) to win the 2022 World Series.
