George Kittle's Week 1 absence proved costly for the San Francisco 49ers as quarterback Trey Lance struggled in passing attack. He was missing his reliable security blanket and will likely be in the same situation in Week 2. Kittle's latest injury update weakens his own fantasy outlook and boosts others.
George Kittle Injury Update
George Kittle Fantasy Outlook
Kittle's groin injury is reportedly improving and head coach Kyle Shanahan even said the tight end has "made a lot of progress." The bad news is that Kittle still hasn't practiced, which makes his status for Sunday bleak at this point. He hasn't played a full NFL season since his second go at it in 2018.
Deebo Samuel Fantasy Outlook
If Kittle is unable to suit up, all eyes turn to wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Samuel is already in line to see more carries with running back Elijah Mitchell out and now could be in line to see more targets. The Pro Bowler racked up 66 yards and 1 touchdown on 10 touches against the Chicago Bears.
Keep in mind Samuel balled out in the three games Kittle missed in 2021. During that span, the South Carolina product posted 342 total yards to go along with 2 touchdowns on 17 touches. That's good for an average of 21.1 PPR fantasy points per game. He remains the focal point on the 49ers' offense.
It's worth noting Kittle's status could also throw tight ends Tyler Kroft, Charlie Woerner and Ross Dwelley back into action. Kroft led the position with 37 snaps played in Week 1 and logged 9 yards on 1 catch as Dwelley logged 11 yards on 1 catch. Neither player is worth more than a speculative add.
Prior to the injury, Kittle ranked as the No. 3 TE. Samuel still checks in as the No. 7 WR in The Duel's Week 2 PPR fantasy football rankings.
