For those who drafted Austin Ekeler in fantasy football, Week 4 may end up being his swan song as a viable starting running back. Melvin Gordon has ended his contract holdout and returned to the Los Angeles Chargers, with the potential to play as early as Week 4, albeit in a likely limited role.
While it's uncertain what role Ekeler will have going forward, his (potentially) last game as a starter could not get any better from a matchup standpoint, as the Chargers head to Miami to face the 0-3 Dolphins.
Ekeler is the No. 3 RB in standard scoring and the top back in PPR formats, compiling 368 scrimmage yards, 19 receptions and four total touchdowns through three weeks. He had his worst game so far against the Houston Texans in Week 3, but now gets to face a Dolphins defense that is allowing the most fantasy points to opposing running backs.
To make matters even juicier for Ekeler in Week 4, fellow Chargers back Justin Jackson has already been ruled out against Miami, due to a calf injury. While Jackson's injury could lead to Gordon making his 2019 debut earlier than initially expected, the backfield should mostly, if not entirely, belong to Ekeler this Sunday.
The Dolphins have allowed 208 rushing yards per game (most in the NFL), six rushing touchdowns (most) and 5.3 yards per carry (third most). Any way you slice it, this is a dream matchup for Ekeler, making him arguably the top fantasy option at the position this weekend.
