The Jacksonville Jaguars are reeling, coming into a Week 7 date with the Los Angeles Chargers as losers of five straight. No one's job is safe when you're losing at that rate, not even fan-favorite Gardner Minshew.
When asked about whether or not he'd consider benching the second-year passer, head coach Doug Marrone sounded non-committal about Minshew's job going forward.
Marrone apparently didn't think about benching him in Week 6, but didn't rule out making a switch going forward.
It's hard to figure out how much Minshew is at fault given the talent he's surrounded by, but the results haven't been pretty lately. He has thrown 5 interceptions on the year, also losing 3 fumbles. Recording 8 turnovers in six games is the kind of thing that gets you benched – especially when you're a sixth-round pick.
That's not to say there haven't been positives. Minshew is on a 16-game pace to throw for 4,485 yards and 29 touchdowns (adding 3 more on the ground). A lot of that has come in garbage time, however.
He's shown real flashes at times, but Minshew will need to clean up the turnovers if he wants to save his job. Mike Glennon is the Jaguars' second-string QB, and he'd likely be the one to come in the event Minshew is actually benched.
