Devils vs Hurricanes Prediction, Odds & Best Bet for NHL Playoffs Game 2 (Can Carolina Take 2-0 Series Lead?)

Updated:

The 2022-23 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs continue on Friday, May 5 as the Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils are set to play Game 2 of their second-round series.

Devils vs Hurricanes Game 2 Info

  • Series: CAR leads 1-0
  • Date: Friday, May 5, 2023
  • Time: 8:00 p.m. ET

  • Coverage: TNT

Game 1 of this series was as lopsided as could be as the Hurricanes notched a decisive 5-1 victory over the Devils. Five different Carolina players filled the back of the net while Jordan Martinook and Jordan Staal each finished with a pair of assists. Frederik Andersen was also solid in goal, stopping 17-of-18 shots.

Devils vs Hurricanes Betting Trends

  • New Jersey is 1-5 straight up in its last six road games against Carolina.
  • Carolina is 6-1 straight up in its last seven home games.
  • The total has hit the under in six of New Jersey's last nine games played in May.
  • The total has hit the over in four of Carolina's last six games against New Jersey.

Devils vs Hurricanes Prediction & Pick

The Hurricanes gave the Devils next to zero breathing room at both ends of the ice in Game 1. For starters, Carolina chased New Jersey goaltender Akira Schmid after scoring three times on the first 11 shots of the game. The Canes then held the Devils to 19 total shots — 11 fewer than they averaged in the previous nine games.

The Devils are solid, but the Hurricanes have had their number at home, winning five of the last six matchups at PNC Arena. Even worse is that New Jersey scored just 13 goals in those games, finishing with two or fewer four times. In other words, the lack of scoring in Game 1 was far from a fluke.

The Hurricanes have momentum on their side while Andersen's play in goal has boosted their confidence over the last two games. With New Jersey struggling to find success in Raleigh, I see the home team taking a 2-0 series lead.

Final Score Prediction: Hurricanes: 4 | Devils: 2

Devils vs Hurricanes Best Bet

Although the Under is being favored on the 5.5-goal total, I see the Over as the best bet for this game. Both teams are capable of solid defensive play, but it's worth noting that three of the last four Devils-Hurricanes tilts have gone over 5.5 goals, averaging 6.5 goals over that stretch. The Over is also 4-2 in Carolina's last six games, as well as 5-2 in New Jersey's previous seven contests played on a Friday.

These Metropolitan Division rivals tend to step things up when they face each other, making the Over the best bet.

Bet: Over 5.5 Goals (+114)
