Dark Horse Picks to Win 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill on FanDuel Sportsbook

Updated:

The second major of the year looks to be a tough test at Oak Hill's East Course for the 2023 PGA Championship. Chief Championship Officer Kerry Haigh and 2019 course transformation architect Andrew Green add insight on the course and setup for the 7,394-yard Par 70.

Following wins by dark horse picks Max Homa in the Farmers Insurance Open, Adam Svensson in the RSM Classic, and Matt Fitzpatrick in the RBC Heritage, there are opportunities to cash in on other players behind the leading favorites. That includes a top-10 or top-20 finish like dark horse Jason Day at The Players Championship, Xander Schauffele at The Masters, Patrick Rodgers (3/1 for top 10) in Mexico, Tommy Fleetwood (5/1 for top 5) at the Wells Fargo Championship, and Seamus Power top-20 at the AT&T Byron Nelson.

Beyond the favorites, there are plenty of capable longshots and dark horses that could make a run at the leaderboard and come away with a higher finish or victory on Sunday. After all, did you see Kurt Kitayama win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at 220/1 odds or greater and Wyndham Clark win at 75/1 at the Wells Fargo Championship?

1. Cameron Young (+3200)

Looking at dark horses outside 30/1 and we start with Cameron Young. He's from Scarborough, New York, and the 2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year ranks third on tour in driving distance (318 yards) and has three top-10 finishes in his past four starts in majors. Young's strokes gained Tee-to-Green, Off-the-Tee, and strong iron play from distance make him a threat. A good week on approach play with better putting and around the green game sets him up for a solid week to challenge.

2. Sungjae Im (+3600)

Sungjae Im ranks highly in the championship field rankings in each of the four major SG categories (OTT, APP, ARG, P). His stats profile is strong across the board, and Im has finished top-10 in three of his last four events plus a T-16 at The Masters to bring in top form and confidence. Im also ranks No. 2 in the field in Par 4 efficiency from 450-500 yards joining major players at the top in Thomas, Finau, DJ, and Rahm. Invest.

3. Wyndham Clark (+7500)

Wyndham Clark is also top-15 in par 4 efficiency from 450-500 yards, and his recent win at the Wells Fargo Championship plus three top-6 finishes since March make him a true and viable dark horse. Clark's Approach play is solid and he gained a staggering 8.9 strokes on approach and 7.5 putting at the Wells Fargo event. Clarks is solid across the board with improved stats and No. 2 Around the Green on bentgrass surfaces. A different challenge, but Clark is top-10 in driving distance (312 yards) on Tour and that also gives him an edge at Oak Hill.
