Dallas Goedert Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Can Goedert Be a Top-10 TE?)

Dallas Goedert Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Can Goedert Be a Top-10 TE?)

Updated:

Dallas Goedert began the 2022 NFL season splitting tight end duties with Zach Ertz until a mid-season trade sent the latter to the Arizona Cardinals. Goedert remained the Philadelphia Eagles No. 1 TE down the stretch, ending the fantasy season as the TE8 in PPR formats.

Drafting TEs can be tricky in fantasy football, but Goedert has become one of the more credible options in recent years. Without needing to compete with Ertz for targets this fall, can the 27-year-old veteran have another top-10 season?

Dallas Goedert Fantasy Football Outlook

The 2021 NFL campaign was a career year for Goedert. The Britton, SD native recorded 830 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 56 receptions, averaging a career-high 55.3 yards per game. His 73.7% catch rating was also his best mark since he was a rookie in 2018 (75.0%).

With little competition at the TE position, it could easily be another 800-plus-yard season for Goedert. Quarterback Jalen Hurts isn't afraid to look his way, averaging 6.3 targets per game (including playoffs) after Ertz was traded compared to the 3.4 he was seeing before the deal.

Goedert also benefits from having talented wide receivers like A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith at his side. The duo keeps opposing defenses honest and takes the pressure off Goedert, allowing him and Hurts to connect on shorter passes.

Dallas Goedert Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook are quite low on Goedert. For instance, he owns only +15000 odds (T-No. 70) to be the 2022 league receiving yards leader. Furthermore, his +10000 odds to pace the NFL in receiving TDs puts him in a 13-way tie for No. 49.

FanDuel has set Goedert's projected receiving yards total at 700.5 with -112 odds on both the over and under. The former 2018 second-round pick averaged 15.0 yards per reception in 11 games after Ertz left, meaning he'd need about 47 catches to hit the over at the same rate — nine receptions fewer than he had all year.

Is Dallas Goedert a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

In a world where TEs are tough to predict in fantasy, Goedert stands out as one of the more consistent options. While another top-10 season is well within the realm of possibility, it's important to point out that Fantasy Pros says that the Eagles own the second-hardest schedule for tight ends, so temper expectations.

Having said that, Goedert clocks in as the TE7 on The Duel's PPR player rankings. Fantasy Pros also has him having an average draft position of 78.8, meaning he'll likely be off the board by the end of Round 7 in 12-team formats.
