The Seattle Seahawks traded away some depth in the secondary by dealing Akhello Witherspoon to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday. His departure leaves the team suddenly thin at the cornerback position. Seattle would be smart to look towards the free agent market when searching for a replacement.

A number of veteran, as well as unproven, NFL cornerbacks remain unsigned heading into the regular season. With that being said, here are three options the Seahawks should consider.

Seahawks Free Agency

1. Quinton Dunbar

A reunion between Seattle and former starter Quinton Dunbar makes a lot of sense here. The 29-year-old spent the 2020 season with the Seahawks and finished the year with 30 tackles, 5 pass breakups and 1 interception in 6 starts. He wasn't spectacular in any means, but he was able to go out and get the job done when called upon. That is what head coach Pete Carroll should be looking for when adding depth at cornerback. Dunbar has six seasons of NFL experience under his belt and has posted at least 1 interception in each one. He's worth taking a chance on for Seattle.

2. Cre'Von LeBlanc

Veteran Cre'Von LeBlanc was among the final cuts made by the Miami Dolphins a few days ago. He joins a crowded free agent market and comes with a lot of upside moving forward. The sixth-year pro has dealt with injuries over the course of his career, but always seems to step up at the biggest times. He played a crucial role on a Super-Bowl winning Philadelphia Eagles team in 2017 and forced 1 fumble in 9 games played last season. It's possible LeBlanc still has some big plays left in his tank.

3. DJ Hayden

Seattle could be aiming to add an experienced veteran to the mix at cornerback and no one may fit that role better than DJ Hayden. The 31-year-old has racked up 328 tackles (15 for loss), 46 pass breakups and 4 interceptions over the course of his eight-year career. Hayden would being along a wealth of knowledge that he could pass down to younger players such as Sidney Jones. It never hurts to have a player that knows what it takes to succeed over on the sideline. Hayden could take on that role for the Seahawks.
