The Atlanta Falcons were robbed of an upset opportunity on Sunday. Grady Jarrett had a pivotal sack on Tom Brady late in the fourth quarter that should've given the Falcons the ball back down 21-15, but it was erased by a bogus roughing the passer penalty that prolonged the Bucs' drive and helped them run out the clock.

After the game, Atlanta running back Cordarrell Patterson blasted the refs on Twitter.

Patterson made his thoughts on the penalty very clear. He said it was a "BS call" and added five exclamation points for emphasis.

Frankly, no one should be arguing with Patterson's assessment. Jarrett's clean takedown of Brady was a textbook sack that didn't use any kind of excessive force or put the QB's safety in jeopardy. Yet, the refs decided to protect Brady -- who's benefited from plenty of favorable calls in his career -- once again and killed the Falcons' comeback hopes in the process.

Atlanta played admirably without Patterson and top weapon Kyle Pitts against Tampa. The Falcons rallied with 15 fourth-quarter points against the Buccaneers to make things close, but the officials' gaffe dashed any shot at taking down their NFC South foes.

Atlanta will look to get back on track in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers. Opening NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook peg the 49ers as early 6-point favorites.
