Commanders vs Lions Week 2 Game Info

2022 NFL Regular Season — Week 2 Game
Washington Commanders (1-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Detroit Lions (0-1, 0-1 Home)
Date: Sunday, September 18, 2022
Time: 1:00 p.m. ET
Venue: Ford Field — Detroit, MI

The Washington Commanders will try to go 2-0 under the leadership of quarterback Carson Wentz when they visit the Detroit Lions in Week 2 NFL action. Wentz's four touchdown passes and Washington's red zone stops on defense guided the team to a 28-22 Week 1 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Meanwhile, the Lions almost completed a miraculous fourth-quarter comeback, but simply ran out of time in a 38-35 Week 1 loss the Philadelphia Eagles. Running back D'Andre Swift impressed with 144 rushing yards and one touchdown on 15 carries while teammate Jamaal Williams reached the end zone twice.

Updated (Sunday, Sept. 18, 12:30 p.m. EST): Updated odds were provided from FanDuel Sportsbook. The odds completed flipped in this matchup. Washington was previously a 1.5-point underdog, but now is the 1-point favorite on the road. Both teams hold moneyline odds at -108 and the over/under total remains steady.

The Lion enter this contest as a slight favorite on the moneyline and the spread. This 1 p.m. ET clash also features one of the higher projected totals (48.5) on the NFL Week 2 slate.

Commanders vs Lions Prediction & Pick

These are two motivated teams to say the least. The Commanders have a shot to make some noise in the NFC East, especially after quarterback Dak Prescott's thumb injury for the Dallas Cowboys. On the other side, Lions head coach Dan Campbell has his players ready to win in 2022 after coming so close so many times last season.

It's worth noting that Detroit is 5-1 straight up in its last five matchups against Washington, though. The Lions are also 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games against the Commanders. The trends point to Campbell's team coming out on top, and I have no reason to go against the trends.

Final Score Prediction: Lions: 27 | Commanders: 20

While the Lions did lose in Week 1, there was a lot to like about their fight. Detroit gashed Philadelphia for 181 yards on the ground (6.5-yard average) and scored three rushing touchdowns. They should find similar success against a Washington team that allowed 6.8 yards per carry to Jacksonville.

Not only that, but the crowd noise in Ford Field on Sunday was also deafening. It was the first sellout in Detroit in years and it helped the Lions cover the spread for the fifth straight home game. Momentum means a lot in the NFL, so back Detroit here.

Bet: Detroit Lions ML (-130)
