There's no doubt that the Kansas City Chiefs consistently have one of the top offenses in the NFL over the last few seasons. Their defense, on the other hand, can be streaky at times, sometimes looking like one of the better units while being occasionally downright putrid.

The Chiefs' defensive line could use some beefing up and that's exactly what ESPN has them doing in an early 2023 NFL mock draft. Analyst Matt Miller predicts that Kansas City will use next year's 24th overall pick on Pittsburgh Panthers defensive end Habakkuk Baldonado.

Chiefs 2023 Mock Draft

The Chiefs used this year's No. 30 selection on DE George Karlaftis but still need a prospect like Baldonado. Veteran edge rusher Frank Clark's future is uncertain with the team and even though they chose not to release him this year, that could change in 2023 if he disappoints this fall.

After missing all but four games in the 2020 season due to injury, Baldonado played with a vengeance last year. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound defender finished the 2021 college football season with a career-high 41 tackles, ranking third in the ACC with nine sacks and 10th with 12 tackles for a loss.

Baldonado has a solid motor and quick feet that should help make opposing quarterbacks' life a living hell. Some of his technique could use improvement, but that's something he can work on as his career progresses.

Even if the Chiefs do bring back Clark for the 2023 NFL season, having him, Karlaftis and Baldonado should bring respect to Kansas City's d-line. Only time will tell if the organization will have a shot at drafting him or if a strong season will see him rise up the draft boards.

The 2023 NFL Draft takes place in the Chiefs' hometown, beginning on Thursday, April 23, 2023 at Union Station in Kansas City, MO.
