The Indianapolis Colts needed every point they could muster in an ugly Thursday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos in Week 5. Those points all came via kicker Chase McLaughlin, who showed his clutch gene by making the game-tying and -winning kicks to sink the Broncos.
Now McLaughlin has been recognized for his efforts in Week 5.
McLaughlin took home Special Teams Player of the Week for this performance this past Thursday. The Colts' stud was joined by AFC counterparts Josh Allen and Matthew Judon, who won offensive and defensive POTW, respectively.
McLaughlin was a perfect 4-for-4 on Thursday night, drilling a 52-yard try in the second quarter and and a 51-yard attempt in the third. The Colts eventually got him into range again with just eight seconds left in the game, where he made his third kick to force overtime. He then sent his team home happy after knocking through the walk-off 48-yarder in OT.
It's safe to say McLaughlin's first-career POTW win was well-deserved. Making things even sweeter for the veteran is the fact his former team, the Cleveland Browns, lost in Week 5 after rookie Cade York couldn't nail a game-tying field goal.
McLaughlin will look to keep things going in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds peg the Colts as slight 1.5-point favorites in that contest, so it'd be no surprise to see the kicker called upon with the game on the line again.
