Buccaneers Get Big Tom Brady and Chris Godwin Injury Updates Ahead of Week 5

Updated:

With their wide receiver group already ravaged by injuries, the last thing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers needed was quarterback Tom Brady's name popping up on the Week 5 injury report. That's exactly what happened, however, when Brady did not practice on Wednesday thanks to a lingering rotator cuff issue.

Fortunately, Thursday's practice brought the Buccaneers some encouraging news.

Buccaneers Injury Report Week 5

Team insider Rick Stroud reported early on Thursday that Brady officially returned to practice. He even said the future Hall-of-Famer "looked fine throwing the ball in drills." It sounds like Brady will be able to play through this ailment and the day of rest was more precautionary than anything else.

Stroud also shared a pair of crucial updates on injured wideouts Chris Godwin and Julio Jones. Both were seen at practice again after logging limited participation statuses on Wednesday. They are both still dealing with knee injuries after returning to the field in Week 4.

Tampa Bay's receiving corps has been banged up to start the year, and the team hasn't had its pass-catchers at full strength since Week 1. That's likely been a factor in Brady's declining performance as well, although the Bucs are still 2-2 despite all the injuries.

Godwin and Jones will look to give Tampa Bay a boost against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5. The Buccaneers are currently 9.5-point home favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
