Long-time NFL cornerback Joe Haden revealed last week that he planned on signing a one-day deal to retire with the Cleveland Browns. NFL insider Zack Jackson reported Friday morning that the contract is now a done deal, but that won't be the only way that the Browns celebrate their former defender.
The Browns will honor Haden with a ceremony before they face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8. He racked up 52 tackles, 27 defended passes four interceptions and a Pick-6 in 18 career games against the Bengals, so it's fitting that he'll be honored before a game against the AFC North rivals.
Joe Haden Retirement
While Haden did spend the final five seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he's mostly remembered for his time with the Browns. In fact, the three-time Pro-Bowler told team insider Camryn Justice that he wanted to retire with Cleveland because of his connection with the city and fans.
Haden played 90 of his 158 NFL games in a Browns uniform, establishing himself as one of the league's premiere defenders. He racked up 615 tackles, 155 broken-up passes, 29 interceptions and seven forced fumbles in that span, earning two Pro-Bowl showings and 2013 All-Pro honors.
A quick search of Haden's name on social media reveals just how much he means to Browns fans. He was one of the few bright spots during years of futility, so it's awesome to see him get the respect that he deserves.
Hopefully, the Browns get can a win with Haden in attendance on Halloween night.
