The Cleveland Browns are gearing up for an important division clash against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7. Cleveland's defense hasn't performed as well as expected so far, which led the team to trade for Deion Jones in early October.
Now the Browns have received an exciting update on Jones ahead of Sunday's game.
Cleveland has activated the veteran linebacker from the injured reserve list ahead of Week 7. That means he's ready to take the field and will make his debut for his new team against Baltimore.
This is great news for the Browns. The team originally landed Jones in a deal with the Atlanta Falcons after Week 5, which saw this defense get gashed for 465 total yards. He was on IR due to a shoulder injury, though, delaying his Cleveland debut.
Jones' return should immediately give this unit a boost. Though he's coming off of a down 2021 campaign, the former Pro Bowl LB posted a career-high 4.5 sacks in 2020, proving he still has juice left in the tank. Jones' standout play in coverage -- 11 INTs, 44 passes defensed and 5 return TDs since 2016 -- will be a massive asset for a team that's struggled to stop offenses through the air in 2022.
The seventh-year pro will hope to help the Browns pull off an upset in Week 7. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds peg Cleveland as a 6.5-point underdog against Baltimore.
