The Cleveland Browns hope to get back on track when they host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5. One thing that could help the Browns would be if they can get more out of their punt returns, who have averaged a lowly 5.5 yards per punt return — the NFL's seventh-worst average thus far.
Fortunately, the Browns might have the right guy to help them improve in that area. Cleveland announced Saturday morning that they have elevated wide receiver and punt returner Chester Rogers from the practice squad to face the Chargers.
Browns Roster News
The Browns have rotated punt returners throughout the 2022 season, using Demetric Felton in the role last week. Nevertheless, assuming he takes over the role, this won't be Rogers' first time fielding punts for Cleveland as he already did so against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, returning two for a total of seven yards.
Rogers spent the first five seasons of his career in the AFC South, playing four for the Indianapolis Colts before joining the Tennessee Titans in 2021. He was terrific at his role over that span, averaging 9.4 yards on 90 punts.
On top of that, the former Grambling State wideout can also contribute to the passing game. He might not produce big numbers, but he's still caught 141 passes over 70 career games for 1,522 yards and six touchdowns.
Considering how the Browns average the eighth-fewest passing yards this year, they could use any available reinforcements.
For now, the Browns come in as FanDuel Sportsbook's 2.5-point home underdog against the Chargers, however, Cleveland is favored to cover at -114 odds.
