Broncos Make Underwhelming Choice in Todd McShay's First 2023 Mock Draft

Updated:

The NFL enters the final month of the regular season in Week 15 and the league is beginning to get a clear look at the playoff picture. This also coincides with the end of college football's regular season, which makes it the perfect time to look ahead at the 2023 NFL Draft.

ESPN's Todd McShay unveiled his first mock draft on Tuesday and has the Denver Broncos targeting an underwhelming choice.

McShay used ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) for the order of his first mock and with the No. 24 pick, the Broncos will take Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs was barely the best running back on Alabama's roster this season, splitting time nearly 50/50 with Jase McClellan.

The two did combine for 1,463 rushing yards. But, six college football backs ran for 1,500 or more yards by themselves.

Denver has other issues, especially considering Javonte Williams will be coming back from injury. Yes, his explosiveness will be a question mark, but the performances of Latavius Murray show veterans can fill in the pieces until then. Denver had major struggles on the offensive line this season by allowing the third-most sacks in football, and it would seem like a smarter position to address in the first round.
