Big Update Emerges on Jamaal Williams' Lions Future

Updated:

One of the Detroit Lions' biggest free agents this offseason is stud running back Jamaal Williams. The tough runner clearly fits this team's playstyle, but coming off of a career year, rival teams could lure him away with a lucrative offer.

A big update has now emerged on the possible return of Williams in free agency.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports the Lions are "working to re-sign" Williams. His representatives also met with Detroit at the combine, which is another positive step.

However, Birkett notes the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers are two threats to possibly steal the sixth-year pro.

This news is significant on multiple fronts. The RB has said he'd like to re-up with the Lions, and this latest update proves those weren't just empty words. Both sides meeting shows a commitment to work things out before free agency opens.

On the flip side, it's also clear Detroit will have to fight to keep Williams around. Two suitors being pointed out this early demonstrates the running back will have no shortage of interest.

Hopefully his obvious fit within the Lions' culture and breakout season motivates him to stick around in the Motor City.
