After a stellar college career at Alabama and being a first-round pick by the Las Vegas Raiders, Alex Leatherwood never panned out in Las Vegas like the team had hoped he would when they spent the No. 17 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on the former All-American lineman.

After being cut by the Raiders, the Chicago Bears signed Leatherwood this past offseason. However, he has yet to appear in a game for Chicago. The team announced on Wednesday that he has been designated to return from the reserve/non-football illness list.

While Leatherwood hasn't exactly been a star thus far in the NFL, he is still just 23 years old and presents a potentially low-risk, high-reward signing for a Bears offensive line that has struggled mightily in recent years.

These woes certainly have not helped the development of young quarterback Justin Fields, who went just six picks ahead of Leatherwood in the same draft. It remains to be seen if Chicago can help get the most out of Leatherwood's talents, but if they can, it will be a perfect match for the team's needs.
