Aaron Jones likely served as the catalyst for many fantasy football championship-winning teams in Week 16. He gained 160 yards from scrimmage and scored twice, finishing sixth among RBs in fantasy scoring for the week.
His 23 carries tied a season-high, which was likely a by-product of Jamaal Williams being forced from the game in the third quarter with a shoulder injury. Per the Packers’ estimated injury report for Wednesday, Williams wouldn’t have practiced, putting him at risk of sitting again in Week 17 against the Detroit Lions.
The No. 1 seed is still in play for Green Bay. If the San Francisco 49ers lose on Sunday Night Football in Seattle and the Packers take care of the Lions, the NFC runs through Lambeau Field. Given that Matt LaFluer’s team takes the field well before Kyle Shanahan’s, there’s going to be no reason to pull any starters. The game will have meaning from start to finish.
With that in mind, expect Jones to not only play in this game, but to also see a majority of the touches out of the backfield with Williams banged up.
The last time Williams missed a game was in Week 5, and Jones racked up 19 carries, as well as seven receptions on eight targets. He turned that workload into 182 yards from scrimmage, adding four touchdowns. His 49.2 PPR points in that game were the most in a single game for any RB this season.
Our Week 17 PPR fantasy football rankings account for Williams sitting out, and we have Jones at RB5 against a Lions team that has allowed the fourth-most PPR fantasy points to opposing running backs this season.
