The Philadelphia 76ers haven't exactly performed up to the organization's hopes entering the year, despite a 27-15 record so far this season. When they traded for Jimmy Butler, he was supposed to take them to the next level, but they would still be the No. 4 seed in the East if the season ended today. A lack of chemistry and consistency has started rumblings of a potential Ben Simmons trade.
There have been questions around Simmons' long-term fit alongside center Joel Embiid and ESPN's Zach Lowe wrote about a Simmons trade being a real possibility this offseason. With that in mind, let's take a look at the three most likely teams to trade for the young point guard.
3. Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets are one of the best teams in the NBA right now, but Jamal Murray hasn't exactly been the consistent ball distributor they had hoped for. Simmons would change that for Denver. Murray would bring additional perimeter scoring and, more importantly, shooting to Philly, something they desperately need. Denver would get a better ball distributor and defender for a team that loves to play in the open floor yet struggles on defense at times in the tough Western Conference. It may not be the right move right now, but during the offseason this could be something both teams consider.
2. Washington Wizards
Washington is definitely in need of a rebuild and Bradley Beal represents the only thing from a talent-level standpoint that could match up with Simmons (although they'd have to do some work to make the money fit on the Sixers end). Beal could team up with Butler and Embiid, giving Philly a big three that's still young enough but that also has tons of playoff experience. Beal would be happy to get a fresh start and it would give Washington some youth along with the ability to extend John Wall's career a bit by having letting him play off the ball and focus on scoring more than distributing.
1. Phoenix Suns
The Suns are in desperate need of a point guard and as great as Devin Booker has been his success hasn't exactly translated to winning on the court. The Suns have plenty of young depth at the wing positions, especially after the acquisition of Kelly Oubre and their anticipated top-5 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. Simmons could round out the Suns' starting five, a group of players that would all be in their early 20s and be the floor general that Phoenix has long been looking for.
