The New York Giants defense is almost fully healthy for the first time this season.

Starting cornerback Eli Apple missed last week's game and starting defensive end/outside linebacker Olivier Vernon has yet to play this season. However, It looks as if both of them will be returning to the field Sunday for the Giants when they take on the Carolina Panthers.

After a disappointing 2017 season, filled with problems on and off the field, Apple has quietly had a great start to his 2018 campaign.

Vernon is a transcendent defensive player, especially in the Giants new 3-4 defensive scheme. This should give him the opportunity to showcase his athleticism in the open field and allow him to drop back as a linebacker in defensive sets as well.

Vernon's skill set will be especially useful this week against Cam Newton and the Panthers. Newton is arguably the most athletic and dangerous dual-threat quarterback in the league. Vernon is one of the few players with the open-field speed and strength paired with pass-rushing ability to handle Newton.

For a Giants defense that has only recorded more than one sack in one game this season, Vernon's presence will be a welcome addition.

Although the Giants have shown some flashes of brilliance on defense, they have yet to become fantasy viable. But with a player like Vernon back in the fold, that might change in the coming weeks.
