Two of the best defenders in football won't be on the field Sunday. The Chargers' Joey Bosa and the Giants' Olivier Vernon were both ruled out of their respective games this weekend.

Bosa’s absence is great news for the Kansas City Chiefs, who take on the Chargers at 4:05 p.m. ET Sunday, but San Diego remains 3.5-point favorites. This does, however, add more optimism to the fantasy outlook for guys like Patrick Mahomes and Kareem Hunt.

The former Buckeye was spotted with a walking boot today and is considered “week to week.” With Jason Verrett already on injured reserve, the Chargers can ill afford to have absences like these adding up.

Vernon’s absence was to be expected going into Sunday, but it is good news for players on the Jaguars' offense who will take any advantage they can get. This Giants defense is a talented bunch, even without Vernon, but it is a downgrade to have Kareem Martin and Connor Barwin getting the reps in his place. Aside from Leonard Fournette, there aren't any other must-starts for the Jags. It does add more optimism to Blake Bortles and wide receivers like Keelan Cole and Donte Moncrief.
