Travelers Championship Field and Course

This year's Travelers Championship is an elevated event with a $20 million purse. As such, a strong field is lined up with the top 8 players in the world rankings and 31 of the top 40. There have been five playoffs in this event over the past 12 years.

The 6,852-yard Par 70 features 10 Par 4s under 450 yards. The second-shortest golf course on Tour has tree-lined fairways and doglegs that require shot-shaping and missing in the right places. TPC River Highlands was re-done by Pete Dye in the early 1980s. The featured closing holes from 15-17 have water to hit over on approach and are known as the “Golden Triangle.”

Travelers Championship Picks & Predictions

A short, positional Pete Dye course with smaller bentgrass greens has us looking towards course history and similar comp courses like Colonial and Harbour Town. You can see why players like Brian Harman, Kevin Kisner and Chez Reavie have had success here in the past.

Strong Iron play and both strokes gained Approach and Around the Green are stats to study, as is Ball Striking. Tommy Fleetwood just missed his first PGA Tour victory two weeks ago when he lost in a playoff at the Canadian Open. Fleetwood didn't contend at the U.S. Open, but he fired a final round of 63 to finish T5.

Over his last 50 rounds, Fleetwood ranks top-5 in Around the Green, top-10 in Short Game and Tee-to-Green, and top-15 in Approach and top-25 in Ball Striking and Putting. In his last eight PGA Tour events since mid-March, Fleetwood has four top-5 finishes. Fleetwood is also among the leaders in Par 4 efficiency from 400-450 yards.

With a potential letdown looming for the top-ranked players and contenders who just challenged for the win at the U.S. Open like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Rickie Fowler and defending Travelers champion Xander Schauffele, we'll look down the oddsboard. Fleetwood looks like a good course fit in front of the fantastic fans and strong turnout that support the Travelers Championship.

Pick: Tommy Fleetwood to Win (+3500) and/or Top-10/Top-20 Finish
