3 Greatest Quarterbacks in Titans History

3 Greatest Quarterbacks in Titans History

Beginning their existence as the Houston Oilers in the AFL before eventually joining the NFL and finally moving locations and changing their name to the Tennessee Titans, this franchise has rich history.

Over the years, three quarterbacks have really stood out as the greatest in Oilers and Titans history, and here they are.

3. George Blanda (1960-66)

The man who led the Oilers to those two AFL Championships in their first two seasons was George Blanda. To this day, Blanda still has the third most passing yards in franchise history, which he did while doubling as the team's kicker. A member of the AFL All-Time Team and the Oilers/Titans Ring of Honor, Blanda was a dominant football figure before the leagues merged. He was also an AFL MVP, two-time passing yards leader, touchdown leader and First-Team athlete with the Oilers. Blanda is now a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

2. Steve McNair (1995-2005)

Steve McNair sadly died shortly after his career, in 2009, but his legendary career has lived on. The former number three overall pick in 1995 played 11 seasons with this franchise and led the Titans through their Houston-Tennessee transition, as well as to their lone Super Bowl appearance as the Titans. McNair was named co-NFL MVP (with Peyton Manning) in 2003, and he is the second leading passer in franchise history. His number 9 has been retired by the team, and he's a member of the Oilers/Titans Ring of Honor.

1. Warren Moon (1984-93)

The all-time leader in passing yardage (33,685) and touchdowns (196) for the franchise is Warren Moon, who was a six-time Pro Bowler with the Oilers, also taking home NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors in 1990. The Pro Football Hall of Famer is also in the Oilers/Titans Ring of Honor, with his No. 1 retired forever. Moon never won a championship with the franchise, but his 80.4 quarterback rating and importance to the organization during one of their most high-scoring offensive stretches was clear. For that, he tops the list as the greatest quarterback in Titans history.
