Jamaal Charles sat out last night’s preseason game against the Panthers with a foot injury. If I were a Chiefs fan I would be pretty annoyed right about now. Not because he got injured, because it’s only natural for football players to sustain injuries. It’s how he got injured. Charles didn’t get banged up trying to break a tackle, or because he was crushed by a linebacker. No, he got injured the way a college kid would, by moving a box out of his training camp dorm room.
Andy Reid explained the situation yesterday.
“Kind of a freak thing. It was crazy. It didn’t happen at practice. It was after practice as we were leaving so we held him out for precautionary reasons. I think he’s going to be fine. I left him back at home. We’ll go from there. But he’s doing well.”
Why is Jamaal Charles moving his own stuff?! Not that he’s above it, but come on. You can’t find someone else to move his stuff, whose foot health won’t make or break your season? Or at the very least, get him a hand truck!
X-Rays were negative for Charles, who was third in the NFL in rushing last season, posting 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns.
There is no timetable for Charles’ return. And if you’re a Chiefs fan, or a fantasy football player, just hope that KC doesn’t have him start doing construction on Arrowhead Stadium during off days.
