2014 DFBC Finalist: Preparation Overrated for BS12

August 7 4:35pm
Nick Sharp

Many players spend hours carefully constructing their best lineups to enter into a contest as important as a DFBC Qualifier. On the night of his victory, however, bs12 didn’t even start on his until 6:35p.m. Turns out that meticulous preparation is sometimes totally overrated.

How long have you been playing fantasy sports/baseball?

I’ve been playing fantasy baseball for about fifteen years. My dad used to play so I’ve been around it my whole life – we used to do everything by hand. I got into FanDuel around 2012.

In your opinion, how does daily fantasy compare to season-long?

I like daily fantasy better. I do still play season-long with my buddies, but I like daily because you have more access to different players on a daily basis. Also, knowing about all the different players helps your daily game more than it does in season-long.

How would you describe your overall approach to drafting?

I usually go with matchups and overall feelings on who’s hot and who’s not.

Describe the night of your DFBC Qualifier win.

It was on a limb that I actually played. It started at 7:10 and I didn’t even make my lineup till 6:35. Throughout the whole night I wasn’t very confident, but I stayed up until around 1:30a.m., watching the last game of the night. It was only when that game was over that I realized I had won.

What are you looking forward to the most about Vegas?

My wife’s coming with me and she’s never been to Vegas so I’m just excited to show her around. The overall experience, hanging out there and having a good time is what I’m looking forward to the most.

What would you do with the $1,000,000 if you did win?

Pay off debts, help out those I care about, and put more into FanDuel. It’d be nice to have less to worry about.
