This Cycling Race Turns into a Boxing Match After Collision
Well, professional cycling just got more interesting.
The Volta a Portugal is an annual two-week long bicycle race currently taking place in — you guessed it — Portugal!
Vicente Mateos of Spain and Asbjorn Kragh of Denmark clearly aren’t friends when they’re not riding. The two were involved in a collision, with neither one chalking it up to just being an accident.
The cyclist in yellow must be an NHL fan, pulling his opponent’s helmet to the ground from the back of his head like a pro. He thought about this before the opportunity presented itself. They must’ve had words earlier, with this being the icing on the cake.
The first punch was the most damaging one of the entire altercation, giving him the victory before others arrived to break it up. It shouldn’t be shocking to see tempers boil over here. If I’m cycling competitively for two weeks, my emotions are bound to get the best of me, too. This probably doesn’t happen often, but it will be tough to forget.
If this suddenly sparked your interest in the Volta a Portugal, you’re in luck. The race is going on for a few more days, concluding August 10.
