At the time of this interview, comox_warrior had secured one seat in the FanDuel DFBC Las Vegas final. Exactly two weeks from his first Qualifier victory, he took down another one. If anyone’s heading to Vegas on a competitive high, it’s comox_warrior.

How long have you been playing fantasy sports/baseball?

I would say it’s been about 20 years for fantasy sports in general, but in terms of the daily leagues, just a little over a year. I’m still a relative newcomer.

In your opinion, how does daily fantasy compare to season-long?

I’m a big chess player and I often compare chess to speed chess. Both are great games but they are different. I personally prefer speed chess and as a result I also prefer daily leagues.

How would you describe your overall approach to drafting?

In all sports, I look for value. I don’t want to overpay for someone. In baseball, I consider historical numbers versus an opposing starter, how certain pitchers fare against certain batters, the batting lineup, the venue, and even the stats of the umpires behind the plates.

Describe the night of your DFBC Qualifier win.

When I got an early home run out of Kelly Johnson, my cheap 3rd baseman, I knew I was in the running. I didn’t really pull into 1st place until the final out of the night. I knew I was in the running, but it wasn’t decided until the last inning. I had Hahn from the Padres, who were up 6-1 against the Dodgers, so I was doing well, but the game got tense a few times. Eventually, I got the extra four points that I needed to secure the win.

What are you looking forward to the most about Vegas?

I hear FanDuel throws quite the party. I’m looking forward to meeting my peers, but the possibility of coming home with a million is what excites me the most.

What would you do with the $1,000,000 if you did win?

I’d share some with my family. Then I’d probably go on a holiday and after that I’d be practical with it – put it in the bank and reinvest some into my FanDuel account.
