2014 DFBC Finalist: Another Year, Another Vegas Trip for Stlcardinalsfan84
Stlcardinalsfan84 is a well-known name among daily fantasy fans as one of the most successful grinders around. With a 2013 DFBC finals appearance under his belt, he’s no stranger to high-pressure live events with tons of cash on the line, but even he had to admit that he’s looking forward to seeing what FanDuel has prepared for the event this year!
How long have you been playing fantasy sports/baseball?
I’ve played season-longs since about 2001. Discovered daily fantasy in 2012 and have been playing ever since.
In your opinion, how does daily fantasy compare to season-long?
I don’t even play season-long leagues anymore, especially with baseball where a season can be six months long. It’s pretty hard to go back once you’ve gotten into the one-day format.
How would you describe your overall approach to drafting?
For tournaments like the DFBC, I like to go against the grain. I don’t like to take the most popular picks for the night. I think you can gain a lot by pivoting off to less popular players with upside. I don’t always do it, but I do think that’s the way to go long-term with tournaments.
Describe the night of your DFBC Qualifier win.
Half way through the night I had something like a twenty-point lead over the second place finisher. It got much closer towards the end because the second place finisher got a very good game from his pitcher, but eventually I was able to close it out.
What are you looking forward to the most about Vegas?
I’ve been down a few times (including the DFBC last year), but I’m looking forward to checking out the Cosmopolitan and seeing what’s different this time around.
What would you do with the $1,000,000 if you did win?
It’s hard to say. I’ve got two little boys so I would invest a lot of it for their future. I’m pretty fiscally conservative. Maybe I’d buy a new car and put some of it back into daily fantasy.
