2014 DFBC Finalist: Pmsimkins Not Sweating The Pressure

Pmsimkins has been to Vegas many times, but never like this. For him, the DFBC represents an amazing chance to win $1,000,000, but as the man himself says, with even the last place players being guaranteed $5,000, there’s no pressure. Right.

How long have you been playing fantasy sports/baseball?

I’ve been playing fantasy sports in 2010 and I started FanDuel in 2011. I’ve played a little bit of baseball every season since then, but this season has definitely been my most successful.

In your opinion, how does daily fantasy compare to season-long?

I like both, but I focus more on daily. It’s nice not being locked into a team for a long period of time.

How would you describe your overall approach to drafting?

For baseball, I usually start off by looking at specific pitcher versus hitter matchups. I look at things like “Has a hitter performed well against pitcher in past?” I look at righty-lefty splits, likelihoods of home runs, and other factors when building tournament lineups.

Describe the night of your DFBC Qualifier win.

My lineup was a bit more haphazard than it usually is because I made quite a few last minute changes. Then there looked like there was going to be a rainout in Chicago. Early on, I was doing pretty well, but nothing was certain. It was only when Rajai Davis hit the walk-off grand slam in the 9th that I knew I had a shot at it.

What are you looking forward to the most about Vegas?

I’ve been to Vegas a bunch of times and I just love going in general. What I’m looking forward to the most is the contest itself. I think it’s going to be pretty cool and a chance at a million is amazing… but since even last place gets $5,000, there’s no pressure.

What would you do with the $1,000,000 if you did win?

Good question. I guess I’ll give half to the government for taxes. After that, I’d probably look at a down payment on a house.
