While many players trust pure analytics and mass spreadsheets to pick their lineups, texas989 utilizes his gut instincts, spectator’s knowledge of the game, and college playing experience to succeed in the daily games.

How long have you been playing fantasy sports/baseball?

I’ve been playing fantasy sports for about four to five years. I pretty much started with fantasy baseball. During Opening Week last year, I got an offer for a freeroll on FanDuel. That’s what got me started on daily fantasy.

In your opinion, how does daily fantasy compare to season-long?

Daily is so much better. You get instant gratification for playing. It’s a lot better and a lot easier and if you don’t want to play on a certain day you don’t have to.

How would you describe your overall approach to drafting?

I don’t really use spreadsheets. I go based off of feel. I watch a lot of baseball and I used to play college ball so I go based on what I see. Matchups are a big thing, but it changes from day to day.

Describe the night of your DFBC Qualifier win.

I was definitely not in the lead in the beginning. David Price, my pitcher, was in an early game and it was nice to get 20 FanDuel Points out of him early. I had a bunch of guys late so things didn’t get going until well into the night. Suddenly, within like 20 minutes of each other, a bunch of my players homered for me. From there, I was in 2nd, but…. I fell asleep while watching. That’s the East Coast grinder’s life. When I woke up I had won.

What are you looking forward to the most about Vegas?

The experience – just being out there with a bunch of grinders. I’m excited to meet a lot of the big name guys and pick their brains about DFS.

What would you do with the $1,000,000 if you did win?

Honestly, I haven’t even thought about it. It hasn’t really sunk in. I would definitely pay off my school loans and buy a new car because I need one. The rest? I don’t know. Definitely put a lot back into DFS.
