2014 DFBC Finalist: Third Time’s the Charm for Shanksalot?
This year’s $3,000,000 DFBC Final in Las Vegas will be shanksalot’s third FanDuel live event in less than two years… and he can’t wait. Read on to learn about why he can no longer stand season-long, the tough competition he faced during his DFBC Qualifier, and what he expects this time around from Vegas.
How long have you been playing fantasy sports/baseball?
I have been playing fantasy sports since 1990 so I guess I’m about to go on the senior tour of fantasy sports.
In your opinion, how does daily fantasy compare to season-long?
I only play season long with a group of friends for the camaraderie at this point. We have had a group pick together for nearly 10 years. If it wasn’t for a few good laughs at the draft I would never play season long again. It’s painful to wait 4 months or more for the results. We are spoiled now.
How would you describe your overall approach to drafting?
My overall approach to drafting changes by sport and honestly what kind of streak I’m in. It doesn’t happen often but sometimes you are in a zone and can pick a great lineup in minutes. Other times you spend too much time researching and second guessing everything.
Describe the night of your DFBC Qualifier win.
The night of winning my qualifier was a surprise. Honestly I had filled out 7 lineups in the morning and forgot about them. It was a 10$ tourney with 4 thousand plus entries so I tried to be a little different. I had a lot going on that day and wasn’t even checking the scores. About 11 o’clock I started to get a lot of tweets from some friends in DFS. It was a tough leader board with mrtuttle05, lovesbases and I think pepsi7. So I knew it would be difficult. It was quite a sweat going against such good competitors and I had to hope Mike Trout had 2 bad ABs to get the win. I was very excited to win a seat so early in the qualifiers.
What’re you looking forward to the most about Vegas?
This will be my third time going to a live event with FanDuel. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. They always throw an unbelievable party and everything is first class. I’m also excited to see some friends I have made along the way. It’s a great industry with some really great people.
What would you do with the $1,000,000 if you did win?
If I were lucky enough to win I will be throwing a ridiculous after party and everyone’s invited. Other than that, I will be paying my kids’ college fund early and taking the family on a killer vacation. I will then immediately put a large amount into NFL qualifiers. And there is a good chance I will have to use some of it to bail TommyG1979 out over the weekend.
