MoneySink Joins the DFBC Finalist List
MoneySink, or Dave, is yet another longtime FanDueler looking to cash in big at the DFBC finals in Las Vegas! In just a few short weeks, we’ll see if MoneySink can rise to the top.
How long have you been playing on FanDuel and what brought you here?
I’ve been playing since 2010.
Have you ever won anything like this playing fantasy sports?
Definitely not, I’ve won a few of larger cap tournaments at FanDuel, which is pretty neat, but never anything like this. It’s all pretty astounding really.
What is your approach to picking your team? Why did you go with the roster you had the night of the qualifier? Who was your most impactful player?
I like to write the names of all the players on slips of paper and scatter them on the floor. Then I cover the cat’s feet in maple syrup and have her walk around until she picks up a team that fits under the cap.
Nah – I try to look at matchups, who’s hot, who’s got good situational and career numbers against certain people – all the usual stuff. But lots of times I think the cat method might work just as well.
On the night of the qualifier I didn’t have much time to do my usual research, but I noticed Brandon Snyder – recent call up for the Sox – was cheap and Yasiel Puig was still relatively cheap then too. And David Price had a nice matchup with Houston. But without a doubt, Kendry Morales was my guy that night. He came out of nowhere to hit 2 hours for me, which really made the difference.
How did you react when you realized you had won a seat to Las Vegas? Describe the night you won.
It was pretty hard to believe. A friend of mine had driven off a hillside road that night and I spent most of the night trying to pull his car back onto the road. When I finally got home around midnight and checked the scores I was sort of in disbelief when I looked at the scoreboard. Luckily the games were almost over so I only had to sweat for like 30 minutes before I knew I was going to Vegas.
How long have you been playing fantasy baseball?
I’ve been playing year-long leagues since college with a bunch of buddies, but only started doing daily here on FanDuel.
How do you like daily fantasy vs regular fantasy?
There’s no comparison – daily is the way to go. Your yearlong league is great for keeping in touch with old friends, but for daily fun and competition – daily is the way to go. Plus there’s a chance to win some real money every now and again, how can you beat that?
What is your favorite thing about playing on FanDuel.com?
The immediate reward of daily games on FanDuel is the best. With yearlong fantasy, you really need to put your time in all year and hope things break right for you to win at the end. But at FanDuel, even if I choke and put in a lousy lineup with two guys that don’t even play that night – which I seem to do *way* too often -, the pain only lasts one night and I get a clean slate the next night. They say closers have a short memory right? So do FanDuel players!
What will you do with the $200,000 if you win the DFBC?
Some will definitely get socked away for the kids’ education. Some will probably go for a nice trip somewhere. And of course, some will have to go back into my FanDuel account!
