FanDuel Wins the Mashable 2012 Sports Innovation Index Award!
Since our inception, we’ve always believed that daily leagues are the future of fantasy sports. Daily fantasy leagues offer a number of advantages over season-long leagues. Among many other things, there’s less dependence on a single draft that can make or break a whole year, less commitment required, more interesting league formats, and quite frankly, daily leagues are a lot more exciting. Fantasy players of all major sports have flocked to FanDuel to play in leagues that last a day, and it was only a matter of time before the media would begin to pick up on this.
When it comes to internet and technology coverage, few publications are bigger and more prestigious than Mashable. Needless to say, we were incredibly flattered to learn that we’d been hand-selected by Jon Dube (head of CBS fantasy sports) as one of five nominees in the sports category of their 2012 Innovation Index.
What’s this Innovation Index all about? It’s simply a list of highly innovative companies spread across 15 categories. While the categories range from sports to fashion to health and more, every nominee shares a common bond – they’re seen as major innovators in their respective industries.
We were up against four amazing companies: Nike, Bloomberg Sports, Flex-Foot Cheetah (used by double-leg amputee Oscar Pistorius to run in the 2012 Summer Olympics), and Condition One (Mark Cuban was impressed enough to invest in it). Thanks in large part to your votes, we won!
That’s right – we won an award for shaking up the sports world more than any other company did in 2012. When you consider the fact that winners in the other 14 categories include companies like Google, Instagram, and Huffington Post, we’re still a bit shocked to see our names up there too!
This was all a major vote of confidence in both FanDuel and the concept of daily fantasy leagues in general. We’ve never been more optimistic about the prospects of the company and the industry. The possibilities are virtually limitless as more people begin to learn that it’s possible to play in fantasy leagues that only last a day. Think about all of your friends who play in season-long leagues and haven’t tried us out yet; it’s only a matter of time before they realize what they’re missing out on.
Or maybe you’re still one of those people. If you haven’t tried us out yet, it’s about time you jumped on the bandwagon.
We’re working around the clock to improve your experience at FanDuel. It only gets bigger and better from here. Thanks again for all of your support.
