Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2022-23 Fantasy Outlook

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the NFC South in 2021-22, winning the division with their 13-4 record. In the end, though, the team fell to the L.A. Rams in the divisional round of the playoffs. Just when it seemed as though regression was finally inevitable, Tom Brady decided to un-retire and suit up in the red and white once more. The 45-year-old legend is entering the final year of his contract with the Bucs, so he’ll be more motivated than ever to earn a ring. Amazingly, not only did Brady rank 3rd in Fantasy points among QBs last year, but he led the league in both passing yards (5,316) and TDs (43).

Brady has voiced a desire to run the ball more often, which means returns Leonard Fournette and Giovani Bernard should see expanded roles. Fournette scored the 11th-most Fantasy points of any rusher last year, and Bernard is still known as one of the NFL’s best pass-catching running backs. Star wide receiver Chris Godwin is still recovering from a torn ACL, but he should return within the next few months. This season, Tom Terrific will once again get to throw deep balls to 4-time Pro Bowler Mike Evans, who ranked 6th in Fantasy points among receivers in 2021-22. Even if Tampa throws less often, there’s no reason Evans can’t put up 1,000 yards and 10 TDs again with Brady under center.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Fantasy Defense

Tampa enjoyed one of the best defenses in football in 2021-22, scoring the 5th-most Fantasy points of any unit despite ranking 27th in points allowed. In order to strengthen a secondary that gave up the most completions in the NFL last year, Tampa’s front office re-signed cornerback Carlton Davis III and acquired former Falcon Keanu Neal. Returners Sean Murphy-Bunting and Antoine Winfield Jr. should also factor heavily into the Bucs’ defensive schemes as long as they can stay healthy. Jason Pierre-Paul and Ndamukong Suh will no longer anchor the team’s defensive line. Instead, that responsibility will fall to Pro Bowler Vita Vea and 1st-round pick Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. Finally, if 10-year veteran Lavonte David can return in peak condition, he should round out a group destined to find themselves in the top-10 Fantasy defenses in 2022-23.
