Pittsburgh Steelers 2022-23 Fantasy Outlook

The Pittsburgh Steelers snuck into the 2022 postseason with a 9-7-1 record, where they were immediately eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs in the Wild Card Round. Now, the team will enter a new season without Ben Roethlisberger under center for the first time since 2004. Pittsburgh acquired former Bears starter Mitchell Trubisky over the offseason, but Trubisky’s inconsistency and some inexperience at other key positions has introduced a lot of uncertainty regarding the team’s outlook for this season.

The Steelers will undoubtedly lean on sophomore rusher Najee Harris this year. In his rookie season with the team, Harris scored the 4th-most Fantasy points of any running back and amassed 1,200 yards and 7 TDs. He received the 2nd-most carries of any back last season, and he could finish 1st in that category this year. Pittsburgh still doesn’t have a clear WR1, but returners Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool both have the potential to develop into one. For his part, Johnson totaled the 12th-most Fantasy points of any receiver last year. Claypool came in at #36.

Pittsburgh Steelers Fantasy Defense

Shockingly, the Steelers’ defense gave up the most rushing yards per game and most yards per rush of any team in the NFL last season. To rectify the problem, Pittsburgh has brought in Jaguars’ star Myles Jack, who registered 62 solo tackles last year. All-Pro defensive lineman Cameron Heyward is set to return, as is DL Tyson Alualu, who missed all but 2 games last season due to injury. Above all, though, the focus will remain on T.J. Watt, who won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021. If anyone can help the Steelers’ defense improve upon their #16 DFS ranking from last season, it’s Watt.
