The Las Vegas Raiders have signed free agent running back Alexander Mattison to a contract for the 2024 season. Mattison was expected to handle lead back duties for the Minnesota Vikings in 2023 after the team parted ways with longtime starter Dalvin Cook, but struggled to get into a rhythm before eventually losing work to Ty Chandler. The Athletic's Vic Tafur believes the Raiders have signed Mattison to back up Zamir White, rather than to compete for starting reps with the third-year back. Mattison's 2023 was an error-filled one -- the back committed 7 drops on just 44 targets and lost 3 fumbles -- but he had shown flashes of solid play in previous years. Hopefully the change in scenery helps him bounce back in 2024.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Las Vegas Raiders are signing free agent quarterback Gardner Minshew to a two-year contract. Minshew's new deal is reportedly worth up to $25 million and includes $15 million in guarantees, setting him up to become the team's potential starter for the 2024 NFL season. The Raiders could still add competition for Minshew and Aidan O'Connell in the NFL Draft (or via trade), but for now it looks like Minshew will start the season off for Vegas. Minshew has made 37 career starts between the Colts, the Eagles, and the Jaguars, which made him one of the more experienced journeyman available in this year's free agent class. He should be a perfect bridge quarterback as the franchise recovers from the back-to-back Jon Gruden and Josh McDaniels misfires.
