Detroit Lions 2022-23 Daily Fantasy Outlook

Daily Fantasy GMs have a special appreciation for the Detroit Lions. From a season ticket holder's point of view, the Lions remain as frustrating as ever, failing to climb out of the NFC North cellar in 2021-22 in spite of an improved, more athletic roster toiling at Ford Field. A holiday season loss to Atlanta epitomized the bum-luck vibe of Detroit's 3-13-1 finish, as the Lions out-gained the Falcons 3-to-2 and lost 20-16. Fantasy sharks don't mind a club that plays in a lot of close-shave losses, though, especially when it means the Detroit Lions are often wide-open in the 4th quarter, while winning NFL teams run out the clock.

Detroit's ledger remains full of Fantasy standouts. Former L.A. Rams quarterback Jared Goff passed for less than 20 TDs for the Lions last season, but found WR Amon-Ra St. Brown for 90 catches to please "PPR" obsessed NFL Fantasy gamers. TE T.J. Hockenson has already spent time on FanDuel's DFS tight end rankings blog, and Jameson Williams is an exciting rookie WR out of Alabama. Regretfully for a team with an indoor field, however, Detroit comes off a dreadful year in the Fantasy kicking game.

Detroit Lions Defense and Special Teams

Detroit's defense and special teams managed to land dead-last in the league last season, even though the unit played a noble brand of football in autumn, and was responsible for most of the Lions' better chances to win games. A dull total of 30 quarterback sacks on the season is a big culprit behind Detroit's bottom ranking, an issue potentially salved by the #2 overall NFL Draft selection of DE Aiden Hutchinson. Fantasy GMs who take a chance on drafting Detroit's DST in 2022 will rely on what could prove to be an easier schedule for Motor City, with the NFC Central's QBs aging and the Bears still mired in mediocrity.
