Dalton Keene
TE / Denver Broncos
The Eagles signed Keene to a reserve/future contract Friday.
Analysis:
Keene ended the regular season on Denver's practice squad, where he spent most of the 2022 campaign, but the Broncos opted not to sign him to a futures deal, making the tight end a free agent. The Virginia Tech product was drafted by the Patriots in the third round of the 2020 Draft, and he caught three of five targets for 16 yards across six appearances as a rookie but hasn't appeared in a game since.
Chase Edmonds
RB / Denver Broncos
Edmonds appeared in 13 games during the 2022 season, rushing 68 times for 245 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught 16 of 24 targets for 157 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis:
Edmonds found a new home during the 2022 season after being traded from Miami to Denver on Nov. 1, a deal sending linebacker Bradley Chubb to the Dolphins. The veteran running back scored all three of his touchdowns while in Miami for the first eight weeks of the season. Following the trade, Edmonds appeared in just five games with the Broncos, rushing 26 times for 125 yards and catching six of seven targets for 61 yards. The 26-year-old missed four games after being placed on injured reserve with a high-ankle sprain, further limiting his time on the field. Edmonds saw double-digit carries just once this season back in Week 1 with the Dolphins. Looking ahead to the 2023 campaign, Edmonds remains under contract and is set to become a free agent in 2024. With teammate Javonte Williams (knee) recovering from a season-ending right ACL tear, Edmonds could find himself in an increased role out of the backfield to start the season if Williams is not ready to go. With fellow running backs Latavius Murray, Marlon Mack (hamstring) and Mike Boone (ankle) all hitting free agency this offseason, it will be interesting to see what the Broncos decide to do in the backfield given Williams' injury status.
Montrell Washington
WR / Denver Broncos
Washington caught four of nine targets for two yards in 15 games this season. He also rushed five times for 30 yards.
Analysis:
Washington finished his rookie campaign with minimal production despite playing in all but two games. The 23-year-old wideout saw limited playing time throughout the season as he remained buried on the depth chart. Heading into the 2023 season, Washington will look to make an impression on Denver's new coaching staff. However, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound receiver will likely face another uphill battle for playing time with fellow wideouts Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick (knee) and KJ Hamler (hamstring) all under contract for next season. As Washington continues to develop, he will likely operate in a depth role going forward.
Brandon Johnson
WR / Denver Broncos
Johnson caught six of 14 targets for 42 yards and one touchdown while playing seven games in the 2022 season.
Analysis:
Signed as an undrafted free agent before the season, Johnson did not see a significant amount of a playing time during the 2022 campaign. With that said, the rookie was one of only four wide receivers to record a touchdown grab for the Broncos this season. Johnson is under contract through the 2024 season before becoming a restricted free agent in 2025. The 24-year-old will look to retain a spot on the roster this offseason with a new coaching staff coming to Denver. Assuming he sticks with the Broncos, Johnson will likely find himself in an uphill battle for playing time once again in 2023, as fellow wideouts Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick (knee) and KJ Hamler (hamstring) are all under contract for next season. Proving to have some chemistry with Russell Wilson, Johnson could provide some solid depth at the position if and when injuries become an issue going forward.
Eric Tomlinson
TE / Denver Broncos
Tomlinson caught nine of 13 targets for 79 yards and two touchdowns while playing all 17 games of the 2022 season.
Analysis:
Known mostly for his skills as a blocker, Tomlinson operated in a depth role at tight end and saw just 13 targets across 17 games. With that said, he was surprisingly tied for second on the Broncos with two receiving touchdowns. The veteran played at least 50 percent of offensive snaps just once during the 2022 campaign, as rookie Greg Dulcich eventually stepped up as the leader of Denver's tight end corps for most of the season. Tomlinson is set to be a free agent this offseason, so the 30-year-old will likely audition for a spot on the roster with a new coaching staff in the coming months. Nonetheless, Tomlinson's skills as a blocker will likely help him to secure his next contract, even if the Broncos decide to move on.
Eric Saubert
TE / Denver Broncos
Saubert caught 15 of 24 targets for 148 yards and one touchdown while playing all 17 games in the 2022 season.
Analysis:
Saubert finished a relatively quiet 2022 season, as the veteran played at least 50 percent of offensive snaps just three times across 17 games. The veteran tight end provided solid depth at the position, while rookie Greg Dulcich emerged as the leader of the Broncos' tight end corps for most of the season. Saubert is set to be free agent this offseason, but his dynamic skill set may be attractive to a new coaching staff in Denver ahead of the 2023 campaign. If the 28-year-old decides to return to the Broncos, he would likely continue to contribute in a depth role next season.
