Tony Pollard
RB / Dallas Cowboys
Pollard (ankle) signed his franchise tag with the Cowboys on Thursday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
What it means:
Pollard signing his franchise tag sets him up to play out the 2023 season on a one-year, $10.1 million salary, though he and the Cowboys still have until July 17 to negotiate a long-term deal. With Ezekiel Elliott having been released by Dallas, Pollard currently stands as the clear No. 1 running back on the depth chart, potentially priming him to build upon the 1,378 scrimmage yards season he logged in 2022. By all accounts, the Cowboys expect Pollard to be ready for training camp. He underwent ankle surgery late January.
Takk McKinley
LB / Dallas Cowboys
McKinley signed a one-year deal with Dallas on Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
What it means:
McKinley was cut by the Rams in mid-October last year and signed a practice-squad deal with Dallas a month later. He didn't make any appearances for the Cowboys, but it appears he impressed in practice and will get a chance to carve out a role in 2023. The 2017 first-round pick recorded 16.5 sacks over his first three seasons in Atlanta, but he has just 3.5 across the past three campaigns.
Trent Sieg
C / Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys signed Sieg on Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
What it means:
Sieg had spent the entirety of his five-year career with the Raiders before getting released earlier in the offseason following the signing of Jacob Bobenmoyer. The 27-year-old will replace Jake McQuaide who signed with the Lions, and with no other long snappers currently on the roster, Sieg will look to lock down the starting role for next season.
Dante Fowler Jr.
DE / Dallas Cowboys
Fowler re-signed with the Cowboys on a one-year deal Tuesday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
What it means:
Fowler will stay in Dallas for next season after registering 27 tackles (22 solo) and six sacks for the Cowboys last year despite playing just 329 defensive snaps, the second lowest mark of his career. The 28-year-old served as a rotational pass rusher behind DeMarcus Lawrence, Dorance Armstrong and Micah Parsons last season and will likely have a similar role for the upcoming campaign.
Ronald Jones II
RB / Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys signed Jones to a one-year deal Tuesday, ESPN's Todd Archer reports.
What it means:
Following four years in Tampa Bay, Jones spent last season with the Chiefs, rushing just 17 times for 70 yards and one touchdown as a deep reserve who was a weekly inactive from Weeks 1 through 11 before getting some run in the Week 18 finale. Jones will compete for a job behind Tony Pollard this summer.
Chuma Edoga
T / Dallas Cowboys
Dallas and Edoga agreed to a one-year contract Tuesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
What it means:
Edoga was selected by the Jets in the third round of the 2019 Draft and started 12 of 24 games across three seasons in New York before joining Atlanta ahead of the 2022 campaign. He appeared in just two games with the Falcons last year and figures to be relegated a reserve role with the Cowboys, though his versatility makes him a solid backup at numerous positions.
