D'Onta Foreman
RB / Chicago Bears
Bears reportedly add running back D'Onta Foreman
What it means:
The Chicago Bears have reportedly signed running back D'Onta Foreman to a one-year contract.
Foreman will join his fourth career team after the 26-year old was given a one-year deal on Thursday. In a potential run-heavy offense ranked first in rush percentage (56.1%) last season, expect Foreman to play a committee role alongside Khalil Herbert and Travis Homer.
On 208 total touches in 2022, Foreman ranked 30th among running backs with a 73.1 Pro Football Focus offensive rating while recording 939 scrimmage yards, 5 touchdowns, 34 forced missed tackles, and 3.26 yards after contact per rush attempt.
Cole Kmet
TE / Chicago Bears
Kmet could lose some snaps after the Bears added Robert Tonyan in free agency Thursday, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
What it means:
Kmet played at least 91 percent of the snaps in 14 games last year. Although that percentage may not dip much, Tonyan is familiar with the Bears offense from his days in Green Bay, when Chicago's offensive coordinator Luke Getsy was his coach. Kmet should retain close to a full snap share, but with Tonyan having caught at least 52 passes in two of the last three seasons, Kmet could lose occasional targets. However, this move should not have much impact on Kmet's fantasy value.
Khalil Herbert
RB / Chicago Bears
Herbert is likely to be in a running-back committee after the Bears signed D'Onta Foreman in free agency Thursday, Adam Jahns of The Athletic reports.
What it means:
Before Foreman was signed, Travis Homer and Trestan Ebner were the only other running backs on the Bears' roster. Last year, Herbert rushed for 5.7 yards per carry, but he averaged 10 rushing attempts per game while David Montgomery averaged 12.5 carries. It's unclear whether Herbert or Foreman will be the lead back, but with Foreman weighing 235 pounds, he would seem the more likely candidate for early-down and goal-line work. However, nothing is certain at this point except Herbert now has serious competition for work.
D'Onta Foreman
RB / Chicago Bears
The Bears and Foreman agreed to a one-year, $3 million contract Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
What it means:
After allowing David Montgomery to move on to the Lions in free agency, Chicago continues to retool its backfield, following up Tuesday's signing of Travis Homer with the addition of Foreman to holdover Khalil Herbert. Foreman is coming off the most productive season of his six-year career in which he turned 203 carries into 914 yards and five touchdowns. As the Bears' roster currently stands, Foreman likely is the best bet of the trio to see work on early downs while also getting a good share of short-yardage and goal-line work considering his 6-foot, 235-pound frame.
Robert Tonyan
TE / Chicago Bears
Tonyan is slated to sign a one-year deal with the Bears, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
What it means:
Tonyan, who logged a career-high 53 catches (on 67 targets) for 470 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games with the Packers last season, adds quality depth to a Chicago tight end corps that also includes returning starter Cole Kmet. The duo will provide QB Justin Fields with a pair of solid pass-catchers at the position, but the prospect of a time-share with Kmet caps Tonyan's fantasy upside ahead of the coming season.
Andrew Billings
DT / Chicago Bears
Billings signed a contract with the Bears on Thursday, Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune reports.
What it means:
Billings appeared in 14 games for the Raiders last season, recording 39 tackles (18 solo) and one sack. He previously spent time with the Browns and the Bengals, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 Draft. He'll likely compete for a depth role in the middle of Chicago's defensive line.
