Chicago Bears 2022-23 Daily Fantasy Outlook

Vince Lombardi said that a football club's strengths and weaknesses tend to stay alike over very long periods of time. There's no better example of that than the Chicago Bears, who have so often produced a quality rushing team, and a subpar passing team, ever since the days of tailback Walter Payton. The trend continued in 2021-22 as the 6-11 Bears tried Justin Fields and Taylor Heinicke at QB with little success, but managed to satisfy Daily Fantasy speculators at other positions at points throughout the campaign.

No veteran starter has been brought in to helm Chicago in 2022-23. That's troubling for DFS gamers looking to score a bargain on the Bears. Bad quarterbacking means that skill players aren't touching the pigskin as often as they would if a Pat Mahomes or Tom Brady were there to distribute the ball. Even the traditionally lively Chicago ground game has been suffering from the malaise. Starting RB David Montgomery only rushed for 3.8 yards per carry while scoring 7 TDs last season, while backup Khalil Herbert ranked 59th in Fantasy RBs in 2021, scoring a solid 64.9 DFS points though rushing for just 2 scores.

Chicago Bears Defense and Special Teams

Chicago's scrappy defense and kick-return teams were a disappointment to Daily Fantasy GMs in 2021. Despite edge-rushers producing 49 sacks and hundreds of QB hurries, the Bears secondary only grabbed 8 interceptions on the entire season, just a pair more than the league low and nearly 75% less than the NFL-best 26 INTs picked by the Dallas Cowboys' #1 ranked Fantasy defense. Chicago addressed the issue with early-round picks in the NFL Draft, adding cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Jaquan Brisker, the latter a markedly disciplined DB who drew 0 penalty flags as a Penn State upperclassman.
