Wilson is recovering from right knee arthroscopic surgery undergone after the end of the 2022 season and expected to be healthy for OTAs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
What it means:
Wilson is reportedly already working out and throwing following his knee procedure, so it looks like there aren't any real concerns about his health heading into the offseason program. The Broncos are hoping that new head coach Sean Payton will be able to facilitate a bounce-back from Wilson in the 2023 season, after the multi-time Pro Bowler finished with just 3,524 passing yards and a 16:11 TD:INT ratio in 2022 despite suiting up for 15 games. It's possible that Wilson's subpar play can be blamed partially on his battling injuries, so it will be good to see him enter the 2023 campaign at full health.
Wilson completed 13 of 24 passes for 283 yards with three touchdowns and one interception and rushed eight times for 18 yards in the Broncos' 31-28 in over the Chargers on Sunday.
What it means:
Wilson's efficiency was off the charts in terms of completion-to-yardage ratio, the product of averaging 11.8 yards per attempt. The veteran signal-caller's touchdown passes went to the unorthodox trio of Eric Tomlinson (three yards), Tyler Badie (24 yards) and Courtland Sutton (20 yards), but he still took a pair of sacks and struggled with his accuracy. Wilson has already vowed to do a top-to-bottom evaluation of his offseason preparation in order to put together an exponentially better 2023, and rumblings that offensive guru Sean Payton will be discussing the team's head coaching job with Broncos brass gives the multi-time Pro Bowler's outlook a potential boost for the time being.
Wilson completed 26 of 38 pass attempts for 222 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Chiefs. He added 27 rushing yards and two touchdowns on four attempts.
What it means:
After a disastrous Week 16, Wilson bounced back with his second solid fantasy performance against Kansas City this season. Prior to Sunday, the veteran rushed for just one touchdown all season. Wilson's mobility has always been a major part of his game, so the use of his legs to find the end zone was certainly a welcome sight. With that said, the Broncos have a lot to figure out on offense ahead of next season with Wilson at the helm. If the 34-year-old signal caller can stack this outing with another strong fantasy performance in Week 18 against the Chargers, it may give fantasy managers a glimmer of hope for Wilson to have a possible resurgence next season.
Broncos CEO Greg Penner said Tuesday that Wilson is still central to the team's long-term plan and is expected to rebuond in 2023, ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold reports.
What it means:
The in-season firing of first-year coach Nathaniel Hackett has led to speculation Wilson could be the next be the next big name headed out of Denver, even though he signed a five-year, $245 million extension in early September. The more likely scenario is one where Wilson finishes out the final two weeks of the season under interim coach Jerry Rosburg before getting a fresh start in the offseason with a new coaching staff. Rosburg confirmed Wednesday that Wilson will start Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Wilson completed 15 of 27 pass attempts for 214 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Sunday's 51-14 blowout loss to the Rams. He added 17 rushing yards on two attempts.
What it means:
Wilson returned from a one-game layoff due to a concussion, but his fantasy managers are probably wishing he sat this one out based on the poor results. The 34-year-old showed some signs of life in his last start against the Chiefs when he threw three touchdowns for the first time this year, but he followed that up with his first three-interception game in this horrid loss. Wilson was pulled for Brett Rypien late in the contest, but the backup didn't fare much better than the player he replaced (4/8, 45 yards, INT). Assuming the Broncos stick with their $245 million quarterback in Week 17, Wilson will try to recapture the success he experienced against the Chiefs in Week 14 when the two clubs meet on Jan. 1.
Wilson (concussion) isn't listed on the Week 16 injury report ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Rams.
What it means:
Wilson cleared concussion protocol last week but was held out of an eventual win over the Cardinals anyway. He'll now return to the starting job, as confirmed by coach Nathaniel Hackett on Wednesday.
