Tonyan is slated to sign a one-year deal with the Bears, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
What it means:
Tonyan, who logged a career-high 53 catches (on 67 targets) for 470 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games with the Packers last season, adds quality depth to a Chicago tight end corps that also includes returning starter Cole Kmet. The duo will provide QB Justin Fields with a pair of solid pass-catchers at the position, but the prospect of a time-share with Kmet caps Tonyan's fantasy upside ahead of the coming season.
Tonyan caught all three of his targets for 29 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Lions.
What it means:
Tonyan ended the 2022 campaign with yet another underwhelming performance. The veteran tight end was on the field for 37 of the Packers' 60 offensive snaps and was unable to produce much for fantasy purposes with his opportunities. Tonyan finishes the season with 53 catches for 470 yards and two touchdowns. Fantasy managers thinking that Tonyan would become a bigger factor in 2022 with the departures of Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling were met with great disappointment, as the 28-year-old was typically an afterthought in Green Bay's inconsistent aerial attack. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder signed a one-year, $3.75 million contract with Green Bay last offseason, so he is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2023. Tonyan would likely have interest from teams around the league, but it's possible the Packers may want to sign him to a longer deal ahead of next season if they believe he can get back to being an effective weapon in the Packers' passing attack.
Tonyan caught three of four targets for 52 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 41-17 win over the Vikings.
What it means:
The veteran tight end was on the other end of Aaron Rodgers' only TD pass of the day, a 21-yard toss in the second quarter that gave the team a 24-3 lead. Tonyan snapped an 11-game scoring drought in the process, as his only other trip to the end zone this season came in Week 4, while his 52 receiving yards were represented best performance since Week 6. He's now three catches short of breaking his career high of 52, a personal record he'll try to set in a must-win Week 18 clash with the Lions.
Tonyan was targeted twice and caught one pass for 13 yards in Sunday's 26-20 victory over the Dolphins.
What it means:
Tonyan played the most snaps among Packers tight ends like he usually does, but he finished with just a lone reception for a third straight week and was surprisingly outperformed by fellow tight end Marcedes Lewis. One game was not enough to drop Tonyan behind Lewis when it comes to fantasy options, but it will make it even tougher for those still going in their fantasy leagues to trust Tonyan in Week 17.
Tonyan was targeted twice and caught one pass for four yards in Monday's 24-12 victory over the Rams.
What it means:
Tonyan led Packers tight ends in snaps for a ninth game in a row, but he also was on the field for fewer than 60 percent of the plays run by the Packers offense for the fourth time in as many contests, and he finished with a season low in the receiving yards column. In Week 16, Tonyan and the Packers will take on a Dolphins team that allowed opposing tight ends to score six touchdowns over its last six games, but it's tough to envision him capitalizing, as he has scored just once all season and averaged 1.6 receptions and 12.2 yards over his last five appearances.
Tonyan was targeted twice and caught one pass for 10 yards in Sunday's 28-19 victory over the Bears.
What it means:
Tonyan played at least 51 percent of the snaps for a fourth straight week, but as was the case in the previous three games he made only a minor mark in the box score. His recent output certainly does not inspire any confidence, but he will at least have an appealing matchup for the first time in a while when Green Bay returns from its Week 14 bye, as he and the Packers will face a Rams defense that has had trouble with opposing tight ends in recent weeks.
