Raheem Mostert re-signs with Dolphins on 2-year deal

What it means:

The Miami Dolphins have signed running back Raheem Mostert to a two-year contract on Tuesday. Mostert will remain in Miami with a deal worth up to $7.6 million. Expect the 30-year old to play a similar committee role after he saw 13.25 touches per game last season and 11.4 with Jeff Wilson also on the team. On 212 total touches in 2022, Mostert ranked 25th among running backs with a 75.7 Pro Football Focus offensive rating while recording 1,094 scrimmage yards, 5 total touchdowns, 39 missed forced tackles, and 3.52 yards per attempt after contact.
rotoWire
Mostert is slated to sign a two-year deal to remain with the Dolphins, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

What it means:

Per Pelissero, the running back's two-year pact is for $5.6 million, with $2.2 million guaranteed. This past season, Mostert recorded 181 carries for 891 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games with Miami, while adding 31 catches for 202 yards and two receiving scores. Looking ahead, Mostert -- who is presumably past a thumb injury that he sustained in the playoffs -- is in line to remain a a key cog in the Dolphins' rushing attack, with the team likely to continue to bolster its backfield depth this offseason through free agency and the draft.
rotoWire
Mostert (thumb) had 181 carries for 891 yards and three touchdowns across 16 appearances with the Dolphins in 2022. He also secured 31 of 42 targets for 202 yards and two touchdowns.

What it means:

Mostert bounced back in impressive fashion by reuniting with coach Mike McDaniel on a one-year deal in Miami, but he's scheduled to hit free agency during the 2023 offseason. The same is true for in-season trade addition Jeff Wilson, along with Salvon Ahmed Myles Gaskin. This year's class of free agent and rookie running backs promises serious potential, so it remains to be seen whether the Dolphins will have serious interest in bringing back the 30-year-old veteran. A broken thumb sidelined Mostert during Miami's wild-card loss to the Bills, but there's no indication he's in danger of missing any offseason activities.
rotoWire
Mostert (thumb) has been ruled out for Sunday's playoff game in Buffalo, Adam Beasley of Pro Football Network reports.

What it means:

Mostert will be sidelined by the broken thumb he suffered in the Week 18 win over the Jets. Miami will roll out a shorthanded offense against the Bills, with third-stringer Skylar Thompson under center. Jeff Wilson figures to lead the backfield in Mostert's absence, with Salvon Ahmed spelling him. Mostert's absence also creates a vacancy at kick returner, which could be filled by Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill or Cedrick Wilson (hip/groin).

Raheem Mostert (thumb) ruled out for Miami's Wild Card matchup

What it means:

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert (thumb) will not play in Sunday's Wild Card playoff contest against the Buffalo Bills. Mostert will not be available after Miami's running back missed all three of their practices with a thumb injury. Expect Jeff Wilson to play a feature role versus a Buffalo defense allowing 18.6 FanDuel points per game to running backs. Wilson's current projection includes 15.3 rushing attempts for 68.3 yards and 2.2 receptions for 12.0 yards.
numberFire
Raheem Mostert (thumb) misses another Dolphins practice

What it means:

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert (thumb) was not seen practicing on Thursday. Mostert broke his thumb in the Dolphins' regular-season finale and is uncertain for Sunday's wild-card matchup with the Buffalo Bills. Jeff Wilson will likely play a three-down role in the backfield if Mostert is unavailable. Skylar Thompson is expected to start for the Dolphins in Buffalo, so Mike McDaniel will likely try to run the ball as much as possible. Mostert led the Dolphins with 181 carries for 891 yards and 3 touchdowns in 16 games this season. Among the 33 running backs with at least 150 attempts, Mostert is 13th in Rushing Net Expected Points per carry (0.06). Wilson ranks 10th (0.07) in that same group, so the Dolphins' running game shouldn't be impacted too much by Moster's availability.
