The team could use the flexibility after losing cogs like wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and safety Juan Thornhill to free agency. As the Chiefs' roster currently stands, the top skill-position players are tight end Travis Kelce, running back Isiah Pacheco and wide receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore. As Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reported back on Feb. 13, Mahomes is aiming to be past the high right-ankle sprain that he sustained in the playoffs by the start of OTAs this spring.

Mahomes aggravated his lingering ankle injury late in the second quarter of Sunday's 38-35 win over the Eagles, but that hurdle didn't prevent him from earning his second career Super Bowl MVP title, which he pairs with the 2022 regular season MVP honors. It's encouraging that 27-year-old aims to be 100 percent by the start of this spring's offseason program, indicating the aggravation didn't carry significant complications. It will be interesting to monitor the Chiefs' personnel decisions this offseason, as key skill-position players like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman (pelvis) and Jerick McKinnon are impending free agents, but regardless of how things shake out Mahomes is a lock to come off the board as one of the elite fantasy options at quarterback in 2023.

Mahomes and the Chiefs got off to a slow offensive start and entered halftime down 10 points. However, he led the team to a score on every possession in the final two quarters -- a feat made more impressive by the fact that he was playing through an ankle injury that he aggravated late in the second quarter. With his status otherwise clear for Sunday, Mahomes will be attempting to lock down his second championship versus a Philadelphia defense that features the top pass rush and also picked off 17 passes during the regular season.

Mahomes now has been listed as a full participant on eight consecutive injury reports since sustaining a high right-ankle sprain during the Chiefs' divisional-round win against the Jaguars. On Wednesday, coach Andy Reid relayed to James Palmer of NFL Network that Mahomes was capable of handling nearly the entire offensive playbook. One day later, Dianna Russini of ESPN reported that Mahomes was dealing with merely some discomfort in the affected ankle. As such, Mahomes' availability isn't in question ahead of Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles on Sunday.

As he has since suffering a high right-ankle sprain during the Chiefs' divisional-round win against the Jaguars, Mahomes continues to have no listed limitations on the practice field. Coach Andy Reid spoke of Mahomes' health Wednesday, telling James Palmer of NFL Network that the quarterback now is able to handle approximately the entire offensive playbook. Considering that point, Mahomes again appears poised to enter the weekend without a designation for Super Bowl LVII versus the Eagles on Sunday.
