Colts' Nick Foles (ribs) will not play in Week 18
What it means:
Indianapolis Colts interim coach Jeff Saturday said Monday that Nick Foles (ribs) will not play in the team's Week 18 game against the Houston Texans.
Foles suffered a very painful rib injury in Week 17 that forced him out of the game, and Saturday revealed Monday that the veteran will not be able to suit up for the team's final game of the season. Sam Ehlinger will make the final start of the year for the Colts.
Ehlinger has not been great in limited opportunities this season, but played his best football in relief of Foles in Week 17. He completed 9 of his 14 attempts for 60 yards and 1 touchdown against the Giants.
Foles (ribs) won't play Sunday against the Texans, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
What it means:
Interim coach Jeff Saturday said Foles is "really sore" after exiting the team's Week 17 loss to the Giants, so the veteran quarterback will sit out the regular season finale. Sam Ehlinger will draw another start, while Matt Ryan will operate as the backup.
Colts rule out Nick Foles (ribs) for remainder of Week 17
What it means:
The Indianapolis Colts have ruled out quarterback Nick Foles (ribs) for the remainder of the team's Week 17 game against the New York Giants.
Foles took a sack from his blindside towards the end of the second quarter, and appeared to land on the ball with most of the weight of the defender still on his back. He was in clear agony afterwards, and was ruled out shortly after the team carted him to the locker room.
With Foles injured, the Colts will turn to Sam Ehlinger as their new quarterback. Ehlinger made two starts for the team earlier this season, completing 32 of his 52 attempts for 304 yards and an interception.
Foles was forced out of Sunday's game against the Giants with a an injury to his ribs, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
What it means:
Prior to his exit from the game, Foles had completed eight of his 13 pass attempts for 81 yards and a pick. With Matt Ryan inactive Sunday, Sam Ehlinger will take over at QB for the Colts.
Interim head coach Jeff Saturday confirmed Foles will remain the Colts' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Giants, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
What it means:
Despite struggling mightily in his first extended action of the season in Monday's 20-3 loss to the Chargers, Foles will be awarded another start while the Colts continue to look for an answer at quarterback while the campaign winds down. Foles completed 17 of 29 pass attempts for 143 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions while taking seven sacks in the Week 16 loss. If Foles is unable to show much improvement during the upcoming weekend, Saturday could turn to Matt Ryan or second-year player Sam Ehlinger to start the Jan. 8 season finale versus the Texans.
Foles is expected to make a second consecutive start Sunday against the Giants, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. "Six more days until you're back out there," interim head coach Jeff Saturday told Foles following Monday's 20-3 loss to the Chargers.
What it means:
While seeing his first extended action of the season Monday, Foles was unable to end the Colts' four-game losing streak, completing 17 of 29 attempts on the night for 143 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions while taking seven sacks. Though he was unable to meet the low standards that Matt Ryan and Sam Ehlinger set during their 12 and two starts, respectively, Foles looks like he'll be given another chance to redeem himself after he had less than a week to prep for Monday's starting assignment. If Foles fails to show much improvement against the Giants, it's possible that Saturday turns the offense back over to Ehlinger or Ryan for the regular-season finale Jan. 8 versus the Texans.
